Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei said on Monday that controlling the shared border with Iraq is a key issue for Tehran. “Controlling the common borders and dismantling terrorist groups is Iran’s strong demand from Iraq,” he noted, IRNA reported. Rezaei made the remarks during a visit to the western border city of Piranshahr where a clash was reported between Iranian border guards and a terrorist group trying to infiltrate the frontier. He commended the border patrol for their valor. One security guard was killed in the clash in Piranshahr. “The brave border guards stood against a terrorist group trying to enter the country and inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists,” he said. Based on evidence, more than 4 members of the terrorist group were killed and others were injured, he added. Iran is a safe and big country, and such incidents cannot undermine the will and determination of the Iranian people, the news agency quoted the commander as saying.
