Lawmakers Demand Resignation of 3 Ministers

A group of lawmakers sent a letter to President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday, demanding he remove three ministers due to economic problems.

"The letter was signed by 50 representatives," lawmaker Hossein Maqsoudi told Tasnim News Agency, noting that this is the second of such letters to Rouhani.

The parliamentarians demanded the resignation of the minister of cooperation, labor and social security, as well as the agriculture minister and the economy minister, all responsible for social and economic development.

Last month, the local media reported that 160 lawmakers had written a letter to Rouhani demanding that he dismiss the central bank governor Valiollah Seif.

Iran is going through an unprecedented decline in the value of the local currency rial against the US dollar.

In addition, the reimposition of US sanctions after Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal may further hurt the country's fiscal problems.
