Siavash Story in Multimedia Concert

Classical vocalist Homayoun Shajarian, and composer Sohrab Pournazeri are to perform the second series of their multimedia concert at Sa’dabad Complex in early July.

The concert “Si” (the number 30 in Persian) is based on the story of legendry prince Siavash from the epic poem of Shahnameh (Book of Kings) written by celebrated Persian poet Ferdowsi (940-1020), IRNA reported on its Persian website.

Tale of Siavash involves several events including resisting the seduction of queen Sudabeh, riding through the blaze of fire, self imposed exile, falling in love with a Turanian princess and ultimately his tragic death. In Persian literature and folklore culture, Siavash is considered as a symbol of purity and innocence.

The concert title is a reference to an introductory verse attributed to Ferdowsi, explaining the long, arduous and exhausting work of composing and compiling the poem which comprises 60,000 verses, which almost took 30 years of his life. Ferdowsi has described his lifetime effort in one verse: For 30 years I endured much pain and strife, with Persian I gave the Ajam (Persian language) verve and life.

Pournazeri, 35, is composing the final scores drawing on his extensive experience in playing traditional instruments including kamancheh and tanbour alongside western classical music.

Son of acclaimed Persian classical singer Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Homayoun, 42, is to sing for the second time in “Si” that will merge music and theater.

The multimedia concert, first performed last July, was the brainchild of the duo (Homayoun and Sohrab) that involved prominent actors including Bahram Radan, Mehdi Pakdel and Sahar Dolatshahi. The troupe performed tales of Zal and Rudabeh, Rostam and Esfandyar and Rostam and Sohrab from Shahnameh.

The new show will be organized by Delavaz and Barna companies. The names of cast and crew are yet to be announced.
