SCI Reports on Food Price Changes

The Statistical Center of Iran has recently published a report on average prices of food items during the second Iranian month (April 21-May 21), comparing them with the corresponding period of last year.

According to the report, the highest year-on-year price rise belonged to eggs, which increased by 55.6%-going up from 53,483 rials ($1.2) to 83,195 rials ($1.9) per kilogram, according to the SCI report published on its official website on Tuesday.

The next in line was foreign-made premium-quality rice witnessing a 37.2% year-on-year increase, going up from 55,889 rials ($1.3) to 76,652 rials ($1.8) per kg followed by banana with 36.8%, rising from 51,977 rials ($1.2) to 71,120 rials ($1.6) per kg. Tomatoes with a 48.7% fall in prices from 37,937 rials ($0.9) to 19,455 rials ($0.4) per kg, yellow apples with 20.6% fall from 54,558 rials ($1.2) to 43,301 rials ($1.03) per kg, and potatoes with 19.6% decline from 21,355 rials ($0.5) to 17,160 rials ($0.4) per kg, witnessed the highest year-on-year decrease in prices.

A month-on-month comparison of price changes shows domestic oranges registered a 25.3% increase in prices from 36,205 rials ($0.8) to 45,353 rials ($1.07) per kg, yellow apples with an 11.9% rise from 38,709 rials ($0.9) to 43,301 rials ($1.03) per kg, and banana with a 7.6% increase from 66,105 rials ($1.5) to 71,120 rials ($1.6) per kg had the highest price increase compared to the month before. Tomatoes with a 10.5% decline from 21,728 rials ($0.5) to 19,455 rials ($0.4) per kg and cucumber with a 9% fall from 28,222 rials ($0.6) to 25,673 rials ($0.6) per kg registered the highest month-on-month decrease in prices.
