Iran imported 980 tons of cosmetics worth $11 million in the first month of the current fiscal year (March 21-April 20), registering a decline of 67.33% and 14.06% in tonnage and value respectively compared with the corresponding period of the year before.
Citing data from Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, ISNA also reported that Belarus, Russia, Japan, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, the UK, the UAE, Spain, Turkey, South Korea and Greece were the main exporters of cosmetics to Iran during the period.
The data only pertain to imports through legal channels. Experts believe more than $1 billion worth of cosmetics are smuggled into Iran every year.
