Regional Role, Missile Program Will Continue

Following US President Donald Trump’s pullout from the international nuclear deal under the pretext of opposing Iran’s regional influence and missile program, one official in Tehran says the country will not back down on either of those cases. The Majlis general director for international affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Wednesday Iran will continue to augment its constructive role in the region and boost its missile defense program, Mehr News Agency reported. Addressing himself to the mercurial US leader, he said the “era of bullying” has long passed. “We will build our economy on more prosperous grounds than before by relying on domestic power and closer interaction with the world,” he said. Iran says it needs its missiles–which are defensive in nature–as it lives in a region that has seen more than its share of wars, chaos and upheavals in the recent past.
