8 Gold for Lorestan Juniors

Prior to the freestyle competitions, Khuzestan team from Iran won the title in the Greco-Roman style by bagging five gold and three silver medals

Lorestan Juniors freestyle team was crowned at the 2018 International Students Sports Federation Gymnasiade in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday.

Representing Iran, the team won eight gold medals and one bronze, to take the top spot.

Javad Javadi grabbed gold in the 48kg class. The next gold was taken by Mohammad Roozbahani in the 51kg division, according to the Iran Wrestling Federation website.

One other gold medalist was Mehdi Hosseinnia in 55kg. Akbar Fazli was another golden boy in the 60kg division.

Sohrab Khalili-Adham clinched gold in the 65kg category. Mehdi Akbarzadeh, Hossein Asgharpour and Reza Khani also came out as victors in the 80kg, 92kg, and 110kg classes respectively.

In the lightest weight category Hossein Rezvanian took bronze in the 45kg division.

South Africa and Brazil came in second and third after Iran respectively.

The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, is an international multi-sport event organized by the International School Sport Federation. It is the largest event among most sport events held by the ISF.

The tournament’s motto is ‘Education Through Sport’ and it brings together young students from around the world to experience the spirit of international competition, fair play, friendship and cultural diversity.

The event will end on May 9. First edition of the Gymnasiade was held in 1974 in Wiesbaden, Germany and featured only gymnastics and swimming.
