Trade between Iran and Jordan stands at $180 million per year, with Iran accounting for more than 80% of the sum.
However, the Arab country has set high import tariffs for Iranian products, therefore most of Iran’s exports to Jordan is carried out by a third party like the UAE and Oman, according to the Iranian ambassador to Jordan.
“If we add these to the trade figures, Iran-Jordan commercial interactions will reach $250 million annually,” Mojtaba Ferdosipour was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
Iran’s main exported goods to Jordan, according to the envoy, are metals, industrial products and machinery, leather, livestock, chemicals, petrochemicals, cement and clinker, handicrafts, carpets, food and nuts.
Jordan mainly exports mineral products, including potash and phosphate, to Iran.
Ferdosipour said Jordanians have invested about $100 million in Iran, mainly in air transportation, chemical, paint, resins and toiletries sectors. “Iranians have invested close to $150 million in Jordan’s stock market,” he said.
