Black Daughter, Mother White

The comedy drama ‘Secrets and Lies’ will have one screening at Iranian Artists Forum on April 30.

British writer and filmmaker Mike Leigh made the film in 1996. The film won  the Palm d’ Or Award at Cannes Film Festival that year.

The film follows Hortense, a successful black doctor who seeks out her birth mother after her foster-mother dies. She is shocked when her research leads her to a lower-class white woman, Cynthia. At first Cynthia denies the claim, but she eventually admits to birthing Hortense as a teenager, and the two begin to bond.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Brenda Blethyn play the leading roles in the film. Timothy Spall, Phyllis Logan, Lesley Manville and Claire Rushbrook are also in the cast.

The venue is located at Honarmandan (Artists) Park, N. Mousavi Street, Taleqani Street,  Tiwall.com wrote.
