Iran’s official apparel imports in the last Iranian year (March 2017-18) stood at around $59 million, while statistics from the International Trade Center suggests apparel entering the country reached $1 billion during the period, the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran said.
“The staggering difference between the figures indicates the high volume of smuggling ($941 million) last year,” Mojtaba Khosrotaj added, noting that there are also other methods to calculate the volume of illegal imports, which could reveal bigger numbers, Fars News Agency reported.
