Military Coop. Talks With Pakistan Minster

Iran’s defense minister said Thursday that Tehran is ready to expand military and defense relations with Pakistan.

In a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Khurram Dastgir on Thursday, held on the sidelines of a security conference in Moscow, General Amir Hatami described Pakistan as “a friendly country and a neighbor that has a special status in Tehran’s foreign policy,” Fars News Agency reported.

He stressed the need for further expansion of military and defense cooperation between the two neighbors.

“Key potentials of the two nations play a determining role and help the process of building reciprocal ties,” he added.

The defense chief lashed out at the US interventionist policies in the region.

“We believe regional countries should not allow the Americans to implement their evil schemes, which are against the interests of the countries in the region and trigger insecurity, instability and chaos,” he said.

The senior Pakistani military official, for his part, said the two countries need to have more meetings and talks in order to move toward solving regional problems.
