Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization is planning a tourist festival targeting young audiences in the upcoming summer in various provinces in an effort to draw on the potential of children to boost domestic travel.
“Children have always played a key role in the selection of a travel destination and we aim to use this capacity to promote family trips in the country,” Mohammad Moheb-Khodaei, deputy for tourism at ICHHTO said, Mehr News Agency reported.
The pilot scheme was implemented in the period between March 19 and April 3 (roughly corresponding Norouz, the Iranian New Year holidays) in the western provinces with Hamedan as the center for the plan.
“Hamedan was selected to be the hub of child-oriented tourism and neighboring provinces, including Kermanshah, Ilam, Kurdestan, Lorestan and Markazi, also benefited from the scheme,” he said.
The official added that festivals and happy events will help develop domestic tourism in less touted areas that “boast remarkable attractions”.
