Expansion of mixed-ability education is on the agenda despite the obstacles. The head of the Special Education Department announced that negotiations have begun to expand mixed-ability classes at the elementary level, but said it could take some time before the proposal takes off, ISNA reports. Majid Ghadami added that the plan includes education for regular teachers to teach students with disabilities and incentives and pay rise for teachers who consent to teach physically and mentally challenged students. There are 88,000 students with mild disabilities and learning difficulties already studying at regular schools.
