The World Federation of Trade Unions’ Presidential Council convened in Tehran on Feb. 26-27, during which international and regional labor issues were discussed and WFTU goals and priorities were defined for 2018. The council was attended by WFTU General Secretary George Mavrikos, Iran’s Minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei as well as a host of other Iranian and foreign officials and activists from India, Nepal, Russia, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, Syria, Turkey, Vietnam, Denmark, Afghanistan, Brazil, Sudan, Portugal, Cyprus, South Africa, Bangladesh, Peru, Italy, Nigeria, Senegal, Sri Lanka and Uruguay to name a few, ILNA reported. This was the second time the Iranian capital has hosted the event. The World Federation of Trade Unions was established in 1945 to replace the International Federation of Trade Unions. Its mission was to bring together trade unions across the world in a single international organization, much like the United Nations.
