National women futsal teams of Iran and Russia held two friendly matches at the weekend at Tehran’s Shahid Chamran Hall.
Iran won the first game 2-1 on Saturday but in the second the national players exchanged a 2-0 lead with a 3-4 defeat in a hard-fought clash, Tasnim News Agency reported.
In the first encounter, Shahrzad Mozaffar’s team defeated the Russians thanks to goals from Sara Shirbeigi and Mahsa Kamali.
In the second match Iran dominated the game in the first half, getting ahead of the rival with two goals. But the Russians managed to equalize the result in the last minutes before the break.
Both teams continued to score goals in the second half but it was Russians who scored their winning goal to humble Iran 4-3.
Iran is preparing for the 2018 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship slated for May in Thailand.
Team Melli had won the title in the first edition of the games in Malaysia in 2015 with eight national teams in attendance.
