The 17th International Conference on Traffic and Transportation opened at Milad Tower International Convention Center in Tehran on Sunday. Organized by Tehran Municipality, the two-day event aims to provide a platform for traffic and transportation experts to share experiences, ideas and expertise on resolving the traffic congestion problem of developed and developing countries. The conference is hosting scholars from more than 15 international universities, including those of Austria, Germany, the United States, Canada, Spain, Pakistan and Jordan, IRNA reported. By the end of 2014, there were 213 motor vehicles per 1,000 people in Iran. According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, the figure is now 250 in Iran. The number is much higher in Tehran–estimated at 307 cars per 1,000 citizens.
