Iran’s Kurash squad bagged five medals at the 11th World Kurash Senior Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, November 30-December 4.
Kurash is an old Turkic term for wrestling and specifically refers to a number of folk wrestling styles practiced in Central Asia.
According to Varzesh3.com, Hamed Rashidi and Mojtaba Zamani, the Kurash wrestlers in -90kg class finished second and third at the games respectively. Also Jafar Pahlevani grabbed the silver medal of +100kg category.
Qanbar-Ali Qanbari in -60kg division lost the final game to an Uzbek rival and took consolation in a silver medal.
In the -66kg category, Behzad Vojdani defeated his Uzbek and South Korean rivals but lost to a Kazakh. Bronze was his fortune.
Iran attended the games with two athletes in each weight category. The rest left the tournament empty handed.
