    Global IPOs at $237b

    Recent data showed that the value of initial public offerings this year reached $237b, with the US market among the most successful for new issues. Data published by Thomson Reuters showed that US stock market debuts increased nearly 57% year-on-year after raising $92.4b in the year. Chinese online retailer Alibaba was the largest to date, followed by the Saudi Arabia’s National Commercial Bank, which raised $6b. Australia’s Medibank Private came in at third place after raising $4.9b. Europe registered equity issuance of more than $262b this year against the $350b in the US. In Asia Pacific, activity surged this year, with equity issuance rising 29.1% to $242b.
