Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Najafi took his office Monday after a decree was issued by Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli late on Sunday approving his credentials. The decree was issued hours after Tehran City Council (TCC) introduced Mostafa Salimi as temporary mayor of the capital on the same day because “the approval of Najafi’s credentials had taken longer than usual”, Mehr News Agency reported. Najafi, a veteran reformist, politician and a senior economic advisor to President Hassan Rouhani, replaces Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf who held the position for 12 years.
