A new bill on soil conservation in cooperation with the agriculture jihad ministry has been proposed to the government, said Hassan Pasandideh, director general of water and soil office at the Department of Environment (DoE).
Soil contamination is caused due to sewage pollutants, household, industrial and hospital wastes, agricultural pesticides and fertilizers and oil slicks. Also non-standard agricultural and mining activities contribute to soil erosion and land degradation, Mehr News Agency quoted him as saying.
The comprehensive bill has been formulated in two parts: contamination and erosion. Pasandideh expressed hope that the bill would be approved by the government soon, so work on soil conservation could commence.
