The western extension of Tehran’s Hakim Highway that joins Azadegan Freeway to Tehran-Karaj Freeway and Karaj Makhsus (special) road will open today. Hakim Highway will now go a further 15 kilometers, parts of which passes through a tunnel from underneath Chitgar Jungle Park, Mehr News Agency reported. The 3 km tunnel was built to prevent the destruction of the park. Expansion of the key freeway was undertaken to help reduce the heavy traffic on highways going to and from Alborz Province. It also provides access to local neighborhoods in District 22.
