Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and stressed the continuation of Iran’s support for Iraqi people in their efforts to restore peace and security to the Arab country. In the meeting held in Baghdad on Saturday, Ansari congratulated the Iraqi nation on their victory in retaking Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, from the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group early this month, ISNA reported. Jaafari expressed satisfaction with the wide-ranging Tehran-Baghdad cooperation, saying his government intends to forge closer bonds of friendship. Heading a high-ranking diplomatic delegation, Ansari arrived in Iraq on Saturday to take part in a fresh round of Iran-Iraq Political Commission’s meetings. He was to meet Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Nazar Khairallah. Before Iraq, Ansari was in Syria for a meeting of the Joint Political Commission, where he met high-ranking officials, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
