Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blamed the crises gripping West Asian nations on the interventionist policies of foreign powers, calling for efforts to fight the poverty resulting from these conflicts that fan the flames of instability in the region.
In an address to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York on Wednesday, Zarif said wars in the region are dragging millions into “absolute poverty”, IRNA reported.
“The crises, triggered by foreign occupation and meddling, have not only robbed West Asian residents of their wealth and natural resources, but also deprived them of their right to dignity and freedom,” Zarif said.
The meeting was held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council. According to the website of the forum, its objectives were to eradicate poverty and promote prosperity worldwide.
