Law enforcement officials at Imam Khomeini International Airport seized over 7 kilograms of opium earlier this week from smugglers wanting to travel to Europe.
About 1.4 kg of the drugs were expertly hidden in boxes of “gaz” (a traditional Iranian candy) in the luggage of a passenger flying to Amsterdam. Another 5.7 kilos were concealed in packages of nuts and fruit leather to be smuggled to Frankfurt, ISNA reported.
The drugs were discovered during routine luggage inspection. No details or nationalites of the passengers were available.
