The Persian Gulf Bridge, which is to be launched by March 2016, will play a significant role in transit of goods and economic activities in the region, Ali Akbar Shabani, CEO of Qeshm Free Trade Zone, said on Monday. The project is now under construction. “The previous government allocated 1,500 billion rilas ($55.7 million at offcial exchange rate) for the first phase of the project and the current government has allocated 1,000 billion rials for its completion,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The Persian Gulf Bridge is a 2.2 km long bridge linking Qeshm Island to Bandar Abbas in the mainland Iran.
