The first edition of Tehran Art Fair will be held in November with domestic and foreign artists and art galleries in attendance.
It is the first time an international art fair has been planned in Tehran. It aims to introduce foreign visitors to the untouched art market of Iran and make Iranians familiar with the modern art world.
In addition, it should help strengthen cultural ties and serve as a platform to reinforce the economics of art and draw international attention to the various mediums of local art, Mehr News Agency reported.
Organized by the private sector, the event is supported by the Visual Arts Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
As it is the first time that such as event is being organized in Iran, the Tehran Art Fair “may not be profitable initially, but it is important to keep the fair going and if it continues, it will help the economics of art in future,” said Majid Mollanowrouzi, director of Visual Arts Office.
Currently, there are a number of international art fairs hosted in the Middle East including in Istanbul, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which all attract a large number of art fans from across the world and have done well economically.
Tehran Art Fair will take place at the Post and Communication Museum in downtown Tehran, November 23-26. Besides the main event, visitors can visit tourist attractions such as museums, historical sites, holiday resorts and other places.
