The music band Alton from the Republic of Azerbaijan is to perform a folk concert in Tehran.
Led by Mohammad Motlagh, who also plays ‘nagara’ (folk drum) for the band, the group will give a concert on May 6 at Vahdat Hall, ANA reported.
Prolific traditional Azeri vocalist Abgul Mirzeliyev, famous for his performances in Azeri ‘mugham’ (folk musical composition), is the band singer.
The performance will be presented by a group of accomplished players such as Sahib Pashazade on tar, and master in instrumental mugham Togrul Asadullayev on kamancheh, a spike fiddle.
Farid Mammadov will play garmon, a Russian button accordion. Ramil Valiev on keyboard and Amin Musaev on ‘gosha nagara’, a form of nagara comprising two interconnected pot drums, played with two wooden drumsticks, are the others in the ensemble.
The upcoming concert is purely a traditional music event. Lezginka, a dynamic, fast-paced music for Lezgi dance is included in the repertoire. Lezgins belong to southern Dagestan in North Caucasus region and northeastern Azerbaijan.
The concert starts at 6 pm and tickets are available at iranconcert.com. Vahdat Hall is located on Shahryar Blvd., Hafez St., south of Enqelab Ave.
Alton is also planning to present concerts in other countries, namely the US, Canada, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Turkey and Netherlands after the Tehran performance.
