Mazandaran Province has the highest literacy rate at 97.6%, according to findings of the recent population and housing census carried out in the second half of the last fiscal year (ended March 20), said Seyed Ali Qasemi, director general of the provincial Education Office. “Last year, 10,969 illiterate adults attended literacy courses conducted in the province by the Literacy Movement Organization (LMO),” IRNA quoted him as saying. The literacy rate has increased from 84.8% in 2006 to 87.6% in 2016, for Iranians between ages 10-49, he said.
