Iranian feature film ‘Another Time’ directed by Nahid Hassanzadeh has won the jury’s recognition at the Athens International Film and Video Festival (AIFVF) in the US.
The jury of the festival, held April 3-10 in Athens, a city in Ohio, considered Hassanzadeh’s work worthy of recognition for its nuanced depiction of the ties of family, duty, love and tradition as it plays out in a family.
The movie tells the story of Ghadir, a chemical plant worker going through hard times. It depicts with great subtly the conflicts of love, duty and tradition that the children create in the family.
Born in Mianeh, East Azarbaijan Province, Hassanzadeh, 43, has written, directed and produced the film. She studied filmmaking at the Iranian Young Cinema Society of Tehran.
Most of her works, short films and documentaries, deal with the problems and difficulties confronting women in today’s society and how their gender impinges on their lives.
‘Another Time’ is Hassanzadeh’s first feature film which has participated in several international events including 40th Sao Paulo International Film Festival, Brazil; 24th Raindance Film Festival in England; 22nd Kolkata IFF, India; 29th Exground Film Festival, Germany; and 14th Seoul International Agape Film Festival, South Korea. It has also won some awards.
The Athens festival screened two other Iranian productions as well including documentary ‘Alone Among the Taliban’ by Mohsen Eslamzadeh and short film ‘Butterflies’ by Adnan Zandi.
Founded in 1974 in rural southeast Ohio, the AIFVF aims to maintain a vision and identity that celebrates avant-garde, independent, alternative and world media, in all genres and formats.
