The governor general of Tehran Province has denied the presence of lead in chicken. Seyyed Hossein Hashemi quoted by ISNA said ‘’there are no reports by the health ministry to confirm contamination of poultry.’’ Hashemi also said contaminants in vegetables are due to their being irrigated with polluted water in the southern parts of the city, but now ‘’90% of such contamination has been prevented.’’
