Ambassador to Cuba Kambiz Sheikh Hassani underlined Iran’s readiness to expand bilateral ties with Caribbean countries.
“Iran and the littoral states of Caribbean Sea are suffering from similar environmental problems, including climate change as well as coastal and sea pollutions,” Sheikh Hassani said in a meeting with Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States June Soomer in Havana on Saturday, Fars News Agency reported.
The Iranian envoy also pointed to historical commonalities between Iran and Caribbean states.
Soomer said the two sides can work together in a wide range of areas, including efforts to mitigate environmental challenges.
Iran attended the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Caribbean Ministers upon an invitation by Cuba that chairs the union.
According to the official website of the association, the union pursues consultation, cooperation and concerted action in trade, transport, sustainable tourism and natural disasters in the Greater Caribbean.
