The number of birds culled in the country due to avian flu has reached more than five to six million, said Naser Nabipour, head of the board of directors at Tehran’s Union of Egg and Chicken Producers. “Since early reports in mid-November, the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain has been detected in 15 provinces. At present, bird flu in Qom and Isfahan provinces is still acute,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying. The disease has been brought under control in the other provinces. “If a province reports no new cases for 21 days, it is declared free of avian influenza,” he added.
