Tehran, Baku Highlight Potential for Cooperation

Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour met Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on Thursday.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with close bilateral relations, while agreeing that there is high potential for development of cooperation, considering the positive will of the two countries’ leaders, according to a press release by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry cited by IRNA.

Mammadyarov said frequent meetings between presidents and senior officials of the two countries, activities of their Joint Economic Commission and interaction between the two nations play an important role in strengthening the bonds of Tehran-Baku friendship.

The two sides emphasized the importance of the 48th meeting of the special working group tasked with drafting a convention on the Caspian Sea’s legal regime, saying it was a major contribution to finalizing the shares of Caspian Sea countries.

Rahimpour arrived in Baku on Tuesday to attend the meeting, which was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers on Wednesday and Thursday.

The next meeting of the special working group will be held in Turkmenistan.
