Figures released by the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) state that during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (ends March 20), 306,194 Tehranis donated blood, a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. During the period, 364,889 people volunteered to give blood, of whom 83% were given approval to donate. Among them, 43% were regular blood donors, IRNA reported. The rate of blood donation in the country is 27 units per 1000 people. Blood donation in high-income countries is 33.1 units per 1000 people; 11.7 units in middle-income countries and 4.6 units in low-income countries.
