A world-renowned US political activist and philosopher warned that should US president-elect Donald Trump implement a promise to scrap the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, it would further isolate the United States from its allies. "Another step toward isolation may soon take place if the president-elect carries through his promise to terminate … the nuclear deal with Iran," Noam Chomsky said in a recent speech aired by Democracy Now. "Other countries who are parties to the deal might well continue ... That means ignoring US sanctions. That will extend US isolation, even from Europe," he warned. Trump is slated to be sworn into office in two weeks. When campaigning for the White House, he attacked the nuclear agreement that the outgoing administration of President Barack Obama and five other powers, including the US's three main European allies, negotiated with Iran, calling it "a disaster" and "the worst deal ever negotiated". It has been in force since January to roll back Tehran's nuclear program in return for giving it relief from international sanctions.
