President Hassan Rouhani said Iran will continue to stand by Iraq and other regional nations against terrorism and external plots to undermine their unity.
“The Iranian nation and government will stand by the oppressed nations of the region, including Iraq and Syria, in this battle,” he said.
Rouhani made the statement in a meeting with Ammar al-Hakim, the head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, in Tehran on Tuesday, according to the official website of the president.
Hakim praised Iran for its strong support for the Iraqi government, saying that considering the formidable bonds of friendship between the two nations, “we are keen for an exemplary Iran-Iraq relationship”.
In a separate meeting with Secretary-General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad Ramadan Abdullah on Tuesday, Rouhani said supporting the Palestinian bid to liberate their occupied land should be the “top priority” of the region and “various plots and difficulties” should not dissuade Palestinians from remaining committed to their cause.
Abdullah said the Palestinian nation has never “tired” in its resistance against the Israeli regime and its young generation will continue on this path.
