The 15th International Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology will be held October 5-8 at Tehran’s Razi International Conference Hall, said Farah Babaee, head of the Health Ministry’s Midwifery Office. Organized jointly by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences and National Association of Iranian Obstetricians & Gynecologists, “the confab will cover topics including labor pain-management techniques, mother and child health, interventions during labor, etc,” the Salamat News website quoted her as saying. Before launching of the Health Reform Plan in 2014, 56% of women opted for caesarean delivery. The c-section rate currently is 49%, she said, adding that the World Health Organization recommends that the rate of c-section should be 15% of all births.
