Drugs Seized in Hormozgan

Iran Police seized more than 4.6 tons of various types of illicit drugs in the southern province of Hormozgan over the past week, Brigadier General Azizollah Maleki, provincial police chief, said on Sunday.

“Over the past week, 63 drug smugglers were identified and arrested,” the Young Journalists Club (YJC) quoted him as saying.

Officials say the battle against drug addiction and trafficking costs Iran $1 billion annually. Iran lies on the transit corridor between the world’s biggest opium producer Afghanistan and drug dealers in Europe.
