Criminality in City Outskirts

The rate of violent crimes is increasing in Tehran’s outskirts, said the head of Research Department of Iran Legal Medicine Organization (ILMO) on Tuesday.

“Based on the number of registered complaints, the rate of street brawls and use of cold weapons is significantly higher in the outlying districts compared to other urban areas,” Dr. Mohammad Qadirzadeh, Mehr News Agency reported.

Cultural factors, low income and tension induced by poverty and hopelessness are the main reasons for the problem, he noted.

The ILMO reports that during the first four months of the fiscal year that started in March, 36,100 people were injured in street fights of whom 64% were men and 36% were women.
