Women’s Economic Role Grows Slightly

Improving women’s presence in political and economic arenas are two main challenges for the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs, said Vice President Shahindokht Molaverdi.

“Over the past year, women’s economic participation rate has grown by nearly 1% from 12.6% in 2015 to 13.3% now,” she told IRNA on Tuesday.

The Vice Presidency has been pushing towards gender equity. It has been taking effective steps to help remove the existing disparities and biases which is its main mission, she said.

President Hassan Rouhani has also supported gender equity and said his government favors meritocracy that does not discriminate between men and women.
