Man AvtoUZ, a German-Uzbek joint venture, will begin the production of 3,000 new lorry cabs under the MAN brand in early September for the Central Asian country and other regional states.
The joint venture based in Samarkand will begin in three phases, including welding, painting and assembly, according to Vzglyad Penza.
The cab localization project is intended to broaden the market for the German industrial vehicle maker in the Commonwealth of Independent Countries and Russia, according to the report.
Uzbek commercial exports to Russia have fallen in line with the dip in purchases in the Russian Federation. Vehicle exports fell by 17% year-on-year to 8,574 units in the first half of 2016, according to a previous report from UZ Daily, a local Russian language site in that country.
Financial Tribune contacted the company to see if it will be partnering with MAN’s partner in Iran, Mammut Group, for joint parts and assembly production, the Uzbek company did not respond before going to print.
Man Auto-UZ is a joint venture between German Man Truck maker and Uzbek company OSJC UzAVTOSanoat created in 2009.
The company stated that it produced 1,300 units in 2013, the last publicly released data showed.
