A 540-bed specialized pediatric hospital offering pediatric sub-specialties will be built in Tehran by Zanjire-ye Omid (literally Chain of Hope) charity institute in cooperation with the Health Ministry. “Last year, the institute helped set up 10 neonatal ICU beds at the Children’s Medical Center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences at a cost of 100 billion rials ($2.8 million),” Maryam Marashi, head of the charity told Mehr News Agency. The measure has helped reduce child mortality rate by 7-9%, she noted. The new hospital requires 3,000 billion rials ($86 million) for its construction and 5,000 billion rials ($143 million) to be fully equipped. The latter amount has been assured by the Health Ministry.
