The first Iranian-built robot to assist in minimally invasive surgeries was unveiled at the 8th Iranian Endourology & UroLaparoscopy Congress held May 18-20 at Shahid Labbafinejad Congress Center in Tehran. “Robot assisted surgeries play a unique role in today’s medical treatment, as they can create the smallest incisions and leave minimum scars,” said Ali Asghar Peyvandi, chancellor of Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University, the Young Journalists Club reported. Decreased blood loss, less postoperative pain and costs, and shorter hospital stays. The robot has been successfully trialed in gallbladder surgeries in animals and is planned to be used in human trials soon.
