The TMRC Herbarium, a department in Traditional Medicine and Medical Material Research Center affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, was registered on the JACQ (new specimen collection software) Virtual Herbaria at the Institute of Botany, University of Vienna in Austria. The TMRC Herbarium was established in 2002 for ethnobotany studies (the scientific study of the relationships that exist between peoples and plants, such as in medicine) and the biological effects of herbal plants. It was registered in the global directory Index Herbarium in 2011 and consists of more than 11,000 samples, ISNA reported. Of the 8,200 species of medicinal plants identified across the world, 2,300 are found in Iran.
