Population to Reach 84m by 2021

The country’s population is expected to reach 84 million by the end of the next five-year development plan (2016-2021), said Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, head of the Management and Planning Organization.

In a meeting with members of the incoming parliament, Nobakht said that the plan to increase population growth and deal with the aging population is in line with the recommendations of the Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Khabaronline reported.

The most important demographic finding in the last census in Iran showed a remarkable change in the number of elderly who increased from 7.2% in 2006 to 8.2% in 2011. The population then was 75 million and comprised 50.4 % male and 49.6% female. The current population is 80 million.
