Persepolis Closer to Pro League Glory

The 82nd Tehran Derby was held on Friday with Persepolis wining 4-2 against Esteghlal in a game that became the second-highest scoring in the history of the fiery derby.

The strong showing paves the way for Persepolis to becoming the League's champion.

The exciting game --a rarity in recent derbies which mostly ended in draws —at the 100,000-strong Azadi Stadium, completed a stellar season for Persepolis which played its 20th undefeated match of the season in a row.

The game began brightly for the Reds as they took an early lead through Mehdi Teremi who sent Persepolis fans into raptures by scoring in the 5th minute.

With 44 scores, the Reds are now in a favorable position to catch the Persian Gulf Pro League.
