A total of 8,000 marriages between people aged 60 or older were registered across the country, said Ali Akbar Mahzoun, head of Population and Immigration Statistics Department at the Census Organization. “The surge in over-60 marriages is partly due to the increase in life expectancy,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying. At present, the average life expectancy in Iran is 72.8 years for men and 74 years for women; however the figure varies across the 31 provinces.
