Foreign Meddling Will Worsen Regional Crises

A senior Iranian official said any decision for regional states, including Syria and Iraq, should be taken by the people of those countries and any foreign interference will aggravate regional crises. Ali Akbar Velayati, the Leader’s adviser on international affairs, also said on Tuesday that decisions for determining the future of Syria and Iraq as well as other countries fighting terrorists should be taken by the people of those states and any foreign meddling will only deepen the crises in the region. “Surely no military solution can be imagined for these problems,” he said. Velayati noted that unfortunately terrorism and extremism are expanding in the region with the support of some western countries and their regional allies, Fars News Agency reported. “The only way to confront this phenomenon is by cutting support for all terrorist groups that have committed any kind of offense and crime against the oppressed nations of Syria and Iraq,” he said.

The remarks came as Saudi Arabia and Turkey raised the possibility of sending ground forces to Syria.
