Based on the latest available data on population and households, over 60% of Iranian families are nuclear (consisting of a pair of adults and their children), said Fariba Bani Sadat Hashemi, director of the population, labor force, and census department at the Statistical Center of Iran. “About 60% of families have a nuclear structure, while 14.6% constitute couples without children, 7.16% are single individuals, 6.9% are single parents, 3.8% are extended families, and 0.24% are child-headed households,” she said, IRNA reported. It appears that family structures in rural areas have also been influenced by urban trends in recent years, she added.
