Establishment of vaccine producing units of Iranian brands overseas is a priority for the domestic vaccine industry under the 2020 Vision Plan, said Houman Kaghazian, head of the workgroup for vaccines affiliated to the Biotechnology Development Committee of the office of Vice President for Science and Technology. “Domestically produced vaccines comply with international standards and we plan to create the grounds to expand production in other countries after obtaining accreditation from the World Health Organization,” he said, as reported by the website of the vice presidency.
Iran is the first country in the East Mediterranean region which has the technical and scientific capability to export vaccines. The Razi Institute for Serums and Vaccines and the Pasteur Institute of Iran are leading regional facilities in the development and manufacture of vaccines.
